    Meaning

“Radhe” is the calling form of Radha, the eternal beloved of Shri Krishna. Saying her name twice is both a greeting and a prayer: it calls on Radha as the embodiment of selfless love (prema) and the mercy through which a devotee reaches Krishna.

In Braj, “Radhe Radhe” is how people greet each other on the street, in shops and at the temple door. For the Radha Vallabh, Gaudiya and Nimbarka traditions it is also a complete practice: the name of Radha is held to be inseparable from Krishna, so remembering her is remembering him.

Because it is just two words, Radhe Radhe is easy to keep up through a busy day. Many devotees set a sankalp of a fixed number of names every day and count them here between work, travel and household tasks.

    Radhe Radhe: common questions

How many times should I chant Radhe Radhe?

There is no fixed rule. Beginners often start with one mala (108) a day and grow from there; many devotees keep a daily target of 1,008 or 10,000 names. Steadiness every day matters more than a large number once.

Can I chant Radhe Radhe without a mala?

Yes. A mala is only a counting aid. This counter keeps the count for you, including the 108-bead mala cycle, so you can chant with full attention on the name.

Is there a special time to chant Radhe Radhe?

Any time is suitable. Brahma muhurta, the hour and a half before sunrise, is traditionally the most peaceful, and many people also chant at sunset and before sleep.
