    The mantra

    ॐ नमो नारायणाय

    Om Namo Nārāyaṇāya

    Meaning

“I bow to Narayana,” the refuge of all beings who rests on the cosmic waters. The ashtakshari is central to the Shri Vaishnava tradition of Ramanuja and is praised in the Narayana Upanishad.

Ramanujacharya is said to have climbed the temple tower at Thirukoshtiyur and shared the ashtakshari with everyone below, so that no one would be denied it. The mantra has been chanted freely ever since across South India.

This counter helps you keep a steady daily count of the ashtakshari, with mala progress, streaks and an optional bell after each 108.
