    The mantra

    ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Om Bhūr Bhuvaḥ Svaḥ, Tat Savitur Vareṇyaṃ, Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi, Dhiyo Yo Naḥ Pracodayāt

    Meaning

“We meditate on the adorable radiance of the divine Savitr; may it inspire our intellect.” The verse is Rig Veda 3.62.10, attributed to the sage Vishvamitra, and is the core of the daily sandhyavandana.

The Gayatri is called the mother of the Vedas. It is chanted in morning prayers across India and taught at the upanayana. Its subject is light: the inner light of understanding as much as the sun.

The mantra is long, so steady counting helps. Tap once per mantra; the counter keeps today’s count, your 108-bead progress and how long you sat.
